The White House is preparing new guidance that would allow federal agencies to resume working with Anthropic, including access to the company's latest AI model, Mythos. The draft executive action aims to bypass the Pentagon's supply chain risk designation against Anthropic, which stemmed from the company's refusal to sign a contract allowing its Claude model to be used for "all lawful purposes."
Anthropic insisted on exclusions for mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons, leading to a standoff. White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently met with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to resolve the dispute.
OpenAI and Google have already signed similar agreements with the Pentagon. Meanwhile, the NSA has been using Mythos, according to reports.
