The goal was his 200th career strike and extended his remarkable run of 28 consecutive successful penalties — a streak spanning a decade since his last miss in April 2016.
Forest boss Vitor Pereira hailed Wood as "the last piece of the puzzle" for his side, who narrowly missed Champions League football on the final day last season despite Wood's 20 goals. This campaign, the striker's long absence looked set to derail their European dreams, but his return has injected new life into the team.
"That's what I have to do — it's the responsibility my team gives me," Wood told TNT after the match. "Cup competitions come down to small margins. Both teams played well, but small moments can change games. Thankfully it went in our favour tonight."
The winner of the tie will face Braga or Freiburg in the final in Istanbul on May 20, with a Champions League berth at stake. Braga currently hold a 2-1 advantage from the other semi-final first leg.
