Yasmine Vargas, wife of actor and Quezon City councilor Alfred Vargas, has taken legal action by filing 20 counts of cyberlibel this Monday. The complaint stems from what she describes as false and damaging social media posts directed at her and her family.
In a statement shared on her Instagram account, Yasmine emphasized her role as a mother compelled to speak out against ongoing harm. "We chose to speak up not to engage in conflict, but because we love our children. For them, and for all children experiencing bullying, we stand firm," she asserted.
She expressed disappointment that the situation escalated to this point, noting that attempts at amicable resolution in February were unsuccessful. "Instead, the posts containing false accusations against me, my husband, and our family continued—even after we chose to remain silent," Yasmine explained.
The allegations, she insists, are baseless and designed solely to tarnish their reputation. "We have chosen to follow the proper legal process. We have filed a complaint with supporting evidence. We trust that the truth will prevail," she stated, without disclosing the identities of those named in the complaint.
Yasmine concluded her message with gratitude for the support and prayers received, while appealing for public empathy. "Let us choose kindness. Let's not add to the pain through slander, speculation, or hurtful words—especially online. Bullying, in any form, has no place in our community," she urged.
This legal move follows a separate complaint filed by Alfred and Yasmine on April 13 with the Office of the City Prosecutor of Manila. That case targets the parents of a minor allegedly involved in bullying and abuse against their child during swimming training. The couple accuses the parents of violating child protection laws and failing in their parental duties under the Family Code.
In response to the earlier complaint, actor Rob Sy issued a statement denying allegations that his child is a bully. "I assure you that behind the camera, I am a peaceful person with no fault in these accusations. The same goes for my partner and our only child. We are raising him properly and responsibly," Sy declared in his message to 'Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.' He also confirmed on Instagram that he and his partner will address the complaint filed against them.
