Zayn Malik has shared an update with fans after being unexpectedly hospitalized, forcing him to cancel several upcoming events.

On April 17, the 33-year-old singer posted a message to Instagram expressing gratitude for the support he's received during his recovery. "Thank you to all of you for your love & support now & always—been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering," Malik wrote. "Heartbroken that I can't see you all this week, I wouldn't be in the place I am today without you guys and am so thankful for your understanding."

Accompanying his message was a photo showing Malik in a hospital bed wearing a patient gown with an IV drip attached to his arm. The timing was particularly poignant as the hospitalization coincided with the release of his fifth studio album, "Konnakol."

Malik made sure to acknowledge the medical professionals caring for him, adding: "Thank you to the incredible hospital staff of doctors, nurses, cardiologists, management, admin and everyone who has helped along the way and continue to. You are all legends!"

The former One Direction member did not disclose specific details about his medical condition. However, the health scare led to the cancellation of an album playback and Q&A session with Banquet Records in the UK that had been scheduled for earlier in the week.

In a previous message to ticketholders, Malik explained: "I'm sorry but unfortunately I am sick and I won't be able to make it to the UK this week as planned. We're already in the process of trying to reschedule the Banquet Q&A, and will be sharing new dates soon."

Fans have responded with an outpouring of support, with some creating a chalk drawing outside the venue where the canceled event was supposed to take place. The artwork featured the message: "Get well soon. We love you Zayn."

Malik, who shares 5-year-old daughter Khai with ex-partner Gigi Hadid, continues to recover while his new album reaches listeners worldwide.
