Zayn Malik has canceled his upcoming US solo tour and cut two UK arena dates following news that he was recently hospitalized.
The former One Direction singer announced the changes on Instagram, telling fans he needed to "take another look" at his schedule. He said he is working to be "better and stronger than before" but has reduced the number of shows on his Konnakol tour, named after his latest album.
Malik had previously canceled live dates citing "extreme anxiety," but has not specified the reason for this latest round of cancellations.
A photo of Malik in a hospital bed was shared on an official updates page two weeks ago. A week later, a comment attributed to the singer noted it had been a "long week" and he was still "unexpectedly recovering."
This was followed by a post on his Instagram account announcing the canceled shows. He thanked fans for their "prayers and well-wishes."
"I've felt it and it's meant the world," he wrote. "I've been at home recovering and I'm doing well and will be better and stronger than before."
Originally set to kick off at Manchester's AO Arena on May 12 with 31 dates worldwide, the rescheduled tour will now start on May 23 with just nine shows. Malik's first UK performance will be at London's O2 on May 23, followed by Manchester's AO Arena on May 24.
Concerts in Glasgow, Birmingham, and Dublin have been canceled, but shows in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Brazil remain scheduled.
Fan Morvan Dick, who had tickets for the Glasgow show, told BBC Newsbeat: "We had booked time off work to go, and a hotel. I am actually devastated to be honest, gutted doesn't really cut it at this point. I have been a fan since day one so it's just a bucket list thing." She added, however, that Malik's "health comes first before anything."
Customers who booked through Ticketmaster will receive automatic refunds, and tickets for the Manchester show remain valid for the new date.
