Zhao Fights Back to Level with Murphy at Crucible

Defending champion Zhao Xintong mounted a spirited fightback against Shaun Murphy to level their World Championship quarter-final at 8-8, setting up a thrilling final session on Wednesday.

On an extraordinary evening at the Crucible Theatre, Zhao erased a 5-3 deficit from the morning session with a series of impressive breaks, including runs of 55, 67, and 117. Murphy responded with his own century breaks of 59, 90, and 65, but Zhao sealed the night with a dazzling trick shot on the black to draw level.

Meanwhile, Mark Allen also recovered from 5-3 down to tie Barry Hawkins at 8-8. Allen compiled his 700th career century (138) and followed with a 131, while Hawkins answered with a 140—the tournament's joint-highest break. Their match resumes at 10:00 BST on Wednesday.

In other action, Neil Robertson took a 5-3 lead over John Higgins, who appeared fatigued after his epic 13-12 win over Ronnie O'Sullivan. Robertson, the 2010 champion, played a pragmatic game, winning the final two frames of the session after a drawn-out eighth frame that lasted nearly 52 minutes.
