DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon inspects the pumping station at Roxas Blvd-Padre Faura, Manila on June 24, 2026. DPWH
The Department of Public Works and Highways on Wednesday said one of three broken pumping stations on Roxas Boulevard in Manila have been repaired, while two others are targeted to be fixed by the first week of July.
The fixed pumping station is at the Padre Faura-Roxas Boulevard area, according to a report by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon inspected the said pumping station on Wednesday morning.
Dizon said that earlier this year, he was informed that three pumping stations on Roxas Boulevard in Manila were broken — Padre Faura, Remedios, and Abad.

"Earlier this year, ininform ako na 'yung tatlong pumping station dito sa Roxas Boulevard na humihigop dapat ng tubig baha sa Taft Avenue, Faura, Remedios, Malate, all the way hanggang P. Ocampo, sira. Tatlo. Tatlo 'yan. 'Yung Faura, Remedios tsaka Abad," Dizon told reporters.
(Earlier this year, I was informed that the three pumping stations here on Roxas Boulevard that should suck in floodwaters from Taft Avenue, Faura, Remedios, Malate, all the way to P. Ocampo were broken. Three. That's three: Faura, Remedios, and Abad.)
Video 3 "So nu'ng pinatingnan ko, ito ang nakita natin," he said, showing reporters photos of trash clogging the pumping stations.
(So when I had it checked, this is what we saw.)
"Isang taon 'yang ganyan. Hindi gumagana. Kaya talagang magbabaha sa Taft tsaka sa... all the way hanggang P. Ocampo. Magbabaha dito sa Faura. Magbabaha sa Kalaw. Magbabaha sa... lahat 'yan, Malate," Dizon said.
(It's been like that for a year. It's not working. So it would really get flooded on Taft, all the way to P. Ocampo. It will get flooded on Faura, Kalaw, and all around Malate.)
Running on generators
The DPWH secretary added that he also found out that since 2024 when the Padre Faura pumping station was completed, it has not been powered by electricity from Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and was instead just running on generators.
"At isa pang nalaman ko, since natapos ito nu'ng 2024, hindi pala ito nakakonekta sa kuryente sa Meralco. Puro generator lang pala ang nagpapatakbo dito," Dizon said.
(And one more thing I discovered, since this was finished in 2024, it has not been connected to the electricity coming from Meralco. Only a generator is making this run.)
"Problema, 'pag generator ka, 'pag naubusan 'yan ng krudo, hinto ang bomba. Kasi 'di nakakonekta sa kuryente," he said.
(The problem when you use a generator is that when you run out of fuel, the pump will stop. Because it is not connected to a power source.)
"Ang generator parang ano lang 'yan, dapat backup eh. Kaya nga generator eh, backup lang 'yan eh. Pero ang problema pala, hindi 'yan nakakonekta sa Meralco. So 'yun ang ginawa namin," Dizon added.
(A generator should just be backup. That's why there's a generator, so there can be backup. But the problem is that this was not connected to Meralco. So that's what we did.) —KG, GMA News
