Amanda Serrano, one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, is ready to step back into the MMA cage—and she has her sights set on a major name: Gina Carano.
The 37-year-old unified featherweight champion recently told TMZ Sports that she would love to compete again under the MVP MMA banner, following the promotion's successful debut on Netflix. "100%. I told Jake Paul, listen, put me in coach, I'm ready to go in!" Serrano said. "It was a great show, live on Netflix, first time MVP's done an MMA card, and it turned out beautiful. And if they decide to do it again, maybe before I'm completely done with fighting in general, I would love to go get in that cage."
When asked about a potential matchup with Carano, Serrano lit up. "Listen, just hear the sound of it. 'Serrano vs. Carano. Serrano, Carano!'" she joked. "It would be an honor to go in there with such a great fighter. She's a striker as well. She comes from a kickboxing background. So ya never know. You never know."
Serrano holds a 2-0-1 record in professional MMA, with both wins coming by submission—a guillotine and a rear-naked choke. Carano, meanwhile, recently returned to the cage for the first time in years, losing to Ronda Rousey. MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian previously stated they want to give Carano another fight, which could align with Serrano's interest.
Before any MMA bout, however, Serrano will defend her boxing titles against Cheyenne Hanson (17-2) this Saturday night in El Paso, live on ESPN. Hanson, 28, is a hungry contender, but Serrano is determined to keep her crown. The Puerto Rican star promises she won't let the young challenger derail her plans.
