Anne Hathaway is taking a sinister turn in the upcoming film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel Verity. The first teaser trailer, released on April 27, showcases the Oscar winner in her most unsettling role yet as the troubled author Verity Crawford.
The clip opens with struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson) navigating the eerie hallways of the Crawford estate. Hired by Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) to finish Verity's manuscript after a mysterious accident leaves her incapacitated, Lowen soon finds herself entangled in a web of psychological terror.
In a haunting sequence, Lowen shares an intimate moment with Jeremy, only to find Verity watching her with a menacing grin. The vision turns violent when Verity forces a kiss on Lowen, leaving her bloodied and screaming. The trailer then flashes through scenes of shattered glass, running blood, and Verity spying from windows, all set to her chilling voiceover: "There is no light where we’re going. Darkness ahead."
Directed by Michael Showalter, Verity is set to hit theaters on October 2. This marks the second Colleen Hoover adaptation to reach the big screen, following 2024's It Ends With Us. Anne Hathaway also serves as a producer on the project.
Fans of the novel can expect a faithful retelling, with the logline confirming that Lowen discovers a secret manuscript that may reveal dark truths about the Crawford family's past. As she grows closer to Jeremy and his son, she must decide whether Verity's writings are fiction or the confessions of a dangerous mind.
