Bangkok Pub Fire Death Toll Reaches 32 as 15 Remain in ICU

The death toll from a devastating fire at a popular live music pub in Bangkok has climbed to 32, as two more victims succumbed to their injuries, Thai authorities confirmed on Wednesday. The blaze, which ripped through the Rong Beer Na Ladprao venue late Sunday night, is the deadliest in Thailand in 17 years.

The Erawan Emergency Medical Center reported that 30 people are still hospitalized, with 15 in intensive care units. Forty-four individuals have been discharged. Most deaths resulted from smoke inhalation, with a few from burn injuries, according to Dr. Wiroon Supasingsiripreecha, chief of the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

Police are investigating possible negligence, including whether emergency exits were blocked. Many victims were found trapped in windowless bathrooms, where they likely sought refuge. The fire's cause remains undetermined, but authorities suspect an electrical short circuit in a ceiling air conditioner. Experts also suggest that flammable acoustic materials near the stage may have contributed to the intense heat and smoke.

Survivors and families have begun gathering at the Phahonyothin Police Station to provide statements, collect belongings, and seek compensation. Natthaphong Lakhorn, 26, who lost a relative, described the chaos: "When the fire broke, I just ran, and then all power went out." He plans to seek compensation for ear and head injuries.

Kanticha Singkhon, 25, who lost her mother, criticized the bar owners for not contacting families. A lawyer for the owners said survivors and families would initially receive 10,000 baht (about $300).
