At the BOTS2026 conference in Boston, experts explored the next frontier beyond generative AI in medicine: the Digital Twin. By integrating a patient’s imaging data, wearable sensor inputs (such as gait analysis), and medical history, generative AI constructs a virtual replica of the patient’s joint or musculoskeletal system. This Digital Twin merges robotic precision with supercomputer-level predictive power, enabling surgeons to tailor every incision, implant selection, and recovery plan to the individual patient.
Visionaries Prof. Stefano Bini and Dr. Ashis Barad MD presented a fireside chat titled “What's After Generative AI? Digital Twin in Orthopedics,” moving beyond the hype to discuss the practical rise of integrated surgical intelligence. The session highlighted how virtual care is expanding and how Digital Twins are set to transform musculoskeletal innovation.
