Bunnie Xo, wife of country music star Jelly Roll, is making waves with her candid perspective on relationships, emphasizing that true connection transcends physical appearance. In a recent column for Playboy, the 46-year-old author and podcast host dismissed the notion that looks are paramount in romance, sharing her personal philosophy that has guided her eight-year marriage.
"Looks are not everything," Bunnie wrote. "I've never dated a man for their looks. I've always dated a man for how he made me feel." She went further, cautioning against prioritizing physical attraction, noting, "If a woman is only dating you for your looks, you need to find another woman, because looks fade, especially when you get older. If you're going to grow old with somebody, not everybody's going to be hot when they're old."
Instead, Bunnie advocates for deeper qualities. "Make a woman laugh," she advised, highlighting humor and emotional connection as foundations for lasting partnerships.
Her words carry personal weight, especially as her husband, Jelly Roll (born Jason DeFord), has publicly undergone a significant weight loss journey, shedding over 120 pounds. When fans commented on his transformed appearance, calling him "so hot," Bunnie gently redirected the praise. "He's always had the same heart," she reminded followers on TikTok. "He's always had the same soul. I think the most appropriate thing here to say is that he looks so much more healthier now that he's lost weight."

Of Jelly Roll, she affirmed, "He's been that dude. I'll forever be cheering him on no matter what weight he is."
The couple's own love story began unconventionally. They met in Las Vegas in August 2015 when Jelly Roll, then relatively unknown and living in a van, performed at a small venue. "When I met him, I tell everybody it's the most cliché thing, but literally my soul was like, 'There you are,'" Bunnie recalled. Despite noting they weren't each other's typical "type," a connection sparked.
After reconnecting later that year, their relationship deepened, culminating in a wedding at a Las Vegas chapel in August 2016—just a month after officially becoming a couple. Together, they've built a life focused on family, supporting Jelly Roll's two children from previous relationships: daughter Bailee Ann, 17, and son Noah, 9.
Bunnie has played a pivotal maternal role, particularly helping Jelly Roll gain custody of Bailee during her mother's struggles with addiction. This period prompted personal transformation for both. "Who was I, us, to take her from her mom and bring her into our house if we're over here just popping pills and doing the same thing?" Bunnie reflected. "I was just like, 'This is it. I'm done.' And I literally never touched a pill again."
Their partnership extends beyond the home. Bunnie, who left the sex work industry in 2019, launched the successful Dumb Blonde podcast and has financially supported Jelly Roll's career, including investing in his early music. "I helped him with that," she said of his 2017 album Addiction Kills. "He needed custody of his daughter, I helped him with that."
