Chase Freedom Flex Cardholders to Lose Cellphone Protection This September

Chase has announced that the Freedom Flex credit card will no longer include cellphone protection as a benefit, effective September 20. Cardholders who rely on this perk will need to seek alternative coverage for their devices.

The cellphone protection benefit allowed users to claim up to $800 per claim (with a $50 deductible) for covered damage or theft when they paid their monthly cellphone bill with the card. After September 20, claims will no longer be accepted.

Chase has not stated a specific reason for the change, but it follows a trend of card issuers trimming premium perks. Affected customers may consider other cards that still offer cellphone insurance, such as the Wells Fargo Active Cash or U.S. Bank Altitude Connect.

Cardholders are advised to review their benefits and adjust their payment methods accordingly before the cutoff date.
