China Demands Stronger Voice for Global South in World Affairs

China has called for greater representation of emerging economies in global governance institutions, arguing that the current system remains skewed in favor of developed nations.

In a new white paper on equitable global governance, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed the need to strengthen the United Nations and ensure developing countries have a louder voice in international decision-making.

Beijing's stance is that all nations, regardless of economic size, should enjoy equal say in global affairs. The push comes amid multiple armed conflicts and severe economic pressures worldwide.

Analysts are questioning whether China is positioning itself as the de facto leader of the Global South and whether it can rally sufficient support to realize that ambition.

"The role of the UN should be strengthened, and developing countries should have a stronger voice in the world body," Wang Yi said.

The white paper has sparked debate on whether Beijing can effectively champion the interests of the Global South while balancing its own strategic priorities.
