Cricket Star David Warner Faces Drink-Driving Charges After Sydney Arrest

Former Australian cricket star David Warner has been charged with drink-driving following his arrest in Sydney over the weekend.

New South Wales Police reported that a 39-year-old man was taken into custody on Sunday after failing a random breath test in the Maroubra area of eastern Sydney. Authorities stated the driver initially attempted to avoid the testing site by parking his vehicle nearby.

"Officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and conducted roadside testing, which returned a positive result," police said in an official statement.

Warner was transported to Maroubra Police Station where subsequent testing allegedly revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.104—more than double the legal limit of 0.05 in New South Wales.

The retired international cricketer faces a mid-range prescribed concentration of alcohol charge, applicable to drivers with blood alcohol levels between 0.08 and 0.149. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 7 to address the allegations.

Warner concluded his international cricket career in 2024 after making 383 appearances across all formats for Australia between 2009 and his retirement. He currently serves as captain of the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, with the team's next match scheduled against Peshawar Zalmi on April 9.
