As former President Donald Trump vows to 'take Cuba,' the island's residents offer a complex mix of defiance, criticism, and resignation. Filmmaker Jeff Seal traveled to Cuba with a humanitarian convoy and spoke with locals about their views on the U.S. embargo, their own government, and Trump's aggressive stance.

Seal observed the devastating impact of the U.S. fuel embargo, which has caused widespread blackouts and shortages of food and medicine. Many Cubans expressed frustration with both the U.S. policy and their own government's failures. 'You cannot change the economic trajectory of Cuba as long as the people who are in charge now are in charge,' one resident said.

Despite the hardships, there is strong pride in Cuba's achievements in free healthcare and education. 'We're not going to bend our knees,' another Cuban declared. Others noted that the Cuban people have always had good relations with Americans, but distrust their government.

The embargo, rooted in a 1960 memo advocating 'hunger, desperation, and overthrow,' has not succeeded in toppling the government despite decades of suffering. Seal's conversations reveal a populace caught between foreign pressure and domestic mismanagement, with no easy solutions in sight.
