From Gadgets to Gourmet: Temu's Surprising Entry into the Meat Market

Temu, the online marketplace famed for its budget-friendly electronics and home goods, is now carving out a new niche: premium meats. The platform, which typically ships products directly from China, has begun offering ribeye steaks, pork chops, Wagyu burger patties, and bacon through a partnership with U.S.-based frozen food company Grumpy Butcher.

Grumpy Butcher, which also supplies major retailers like Amazon and Walmart, became Temu's first frozen food seller in June 2025. Founder Denys Gorbatiuk reported immediate success, with orders flooding in the day after launch. "I found myself packing Temu boxes by hand with my warehouse team," Gorbatiuk recalled in a company profile.

"Historically, more than 50 percent of our customers have been over 55," Gorbatiuk noted. "But on Temu, we're suddenly reaching millennials and Gen Zers."

The partnership has proven remarkably successful for Grumpy Butcher. Within weeks of launching on Temu, the platform accounted for 12% of the company's online sales. By December 2025, that figure had grown to 19-20%, with some customers making repeat purchases. Gorbatiuk shared that one buyer had made 25 separate purchases of different meat products.

Gorbatiuk emphasized that all meat products meet strict government requirements for food safety and are carefully packaged to ensure freshness during delivery. "Everything gets delivered to your doorstep one or two days later," he said. "You cannot beat that."

The company has had to expand its workforce to keep up with demand from Temu orders, highlighting how the platform is helping traditional food businesses reach new demographics while maintaining their established quality standards.
