Justin Gaethje is leaning into his underdog role ahead of his historic fight against Ilia Topuria at the White House. Drawing a parallel to the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team's stunning victory, Gaethje told Babcock, "I get to control my destiny. What an opportunity. This is 'Miracle On Ice' type of energy that I'm trying to drive into this country."

"I have an opportunity to do something special and I could not ask for anything better. I think 250 years ago, we were definitely bigger underdogs. And look where we are now. So I'm ready."

Fighting at the White House to celebrate the nation's 250th birthday adds extra weight for the American fighter. Gaethje acknowledges the pressure but welcomes it. "I can only try my hardest and give max effort. I think no matter what happens that night, win or lose, I'm going to make my country proud."

"I always tell people my middle name is pressure," he added. "I love being the underdog. I love being counted out. And I love the fact that my opponent thinks he's some kind of God or King. Because I get to bring him down and let him know that he's just a human."

Topuria, undefeated at 17-0, enters as a heavy favorite—nearly 8-to-1—over the 37-year-old interim champ. Gaethje isn't fazed. "There's no doubt this kid is special," he said, "but he isn't invincible."

Gaethje also discussed the logistics of the June 14th White House fight, including ticket allotments and warm-up arrangements. Full interview available.
