Israel has formally approved the procurement of advanced fighter jets from the United States, including two new squadrons of F-35 and F-15IA aircraft from Lockheed Martin and Boeing. The deal, valued at approximately $5.2 billion, aims to bolster the Israeli Air Force's capabilities amid regional security challenges. The acquisition includes 25 F-35 stealth jets and 25 F-15IA strike aircraft, with deliveries expected to begin in 2025. The agreement was finalized following discussions between Israeli defense officials and their US counterparts, and is financed largely through US military aid.
This acquisition significantly enhances our aerial superiority and deterrence capabilities," said an Israeli defense official. "The F-35 and F-15IA will ensure we maintain a qualitative edge in the region."
The new squadrons will replace older models and augment existing fleets, providing cutting-edge technology, advanced radar systems, and extended range. The deal also includes training, spare parts, and maintenance support. Israel's defense establishment views the purchase as critical for countering evolving threats from Iran and other adversaries, particularly in the air and missile defense domains.
