LINE Yahoo has rolled out a new map application called 'Maply' that integrates OpenAI's generative AI capabilities. The app, released as a free iOS download on April 27, 2026, aims to provide a conversational and personalized mapping experience.
Key details:
- Platform: Currently iOS only; Android and web versions are pending.
- Core feature: Users can interact with the map through character dialogue powered by OpenAI's technology, enabling natural language queries for directions, local recommendations, and more.
- Availability: Free to download from the App Store.
According to network business analyst Shurin Yokota, Maply represents a shift toward AI-driven navigation, allowing users to ask questions conversationally rather than relying on traditional search. The app's AI interprets requests like "Find a nearby coffee shop with outdoor seating" or "Show me the fastest route home avoiding traffic."
While the Android version is not yet released, the developer has hinted at a broader rollout. For now, iOS users can explore the new interface and test the AI dialogue features.
"Maply is more than just a map—it’s a travel companion that understands natural language," Yokota explained in a recent video.
The app also includes standard map functions such as turn-by-turn navigation, location sharing, and saved places, all augmented by the conversational AI layer.
