The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the licenses of bus drivers and conductors who tested positive for illegal drugs during recent random drug tests. The agency announced the revocation as part of intensified efforts to ensure public safety on the roads.
According to LTO officials, the crackdown is aimed at preventing drug-impaired individuals from operating public utility vehicles. Authorities conducted surprise drug tests at various bus terminals and along major routes.
"We will not hesitate to revoke licenses of those found using illegal substances," an LTO spokesperson said. "This is to protect the lives of passengers and other motorists."
The affected drivers and conductors were also barred from reapplying for a license for a period to be determined by the agency. The LTO encouraged transport companies to conduct their own drug testing and to report any employees who test positive.
This move is part of a broader government campaign against drug use in the transportation sector, which includes regular random testing and stricter penalties for violators.
