The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued summons to two police officers who were photographed riding motorcycles without helmets. The incident, which drew public attention, underscores the enforcement of traffic laws regardless of the rider's profession.
According to LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II, the officers were identified and ordered to explain their violation. "No one is above the law," Mendoza stated, emphasizing that all motorists must comply with helmet laws for their safety.
The summons was issued after photos of the officers circulated online, showing them without helmets while on duty. The LTO reminded the public that wearing helmets is mandatory under Republic Act 10054, also known as the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
Violators face a fine of P1,500 for the first offense, P3,000 for the second, and P5,000 for subsequent violations, along with possible suspension of driver's license.
