American Nelly Korda fired a sublime seven-under-par 65 to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Chevron Championship, the first women's major of the year.
The two-time major winner, who captured this title in 2024, delivered a bogey-free round at Houston's Memorial Park Golf Course, showcasing her trademark precision and composure.
"The wind was picking up here and there," Korda said. "Through the trees it was definitely gusting, so I had to lock in on a couple of yardages. Overall, I just felt really good out there."
England's Mimi Rhodes, making her tournament debut, carded a three-under 69 to sit four shots off the lead. The 24-year-old, who won three times on the Ladies European Tour last season, recorded five birdies and two bogeys.
"I felt ready," said Rhodes. "Getting here on Sunday was probably a benefit—I was able to see the course a bit more. I did as much prep as I could and felt comfortable coming into this round."
South Korea's Somi Lee and Thailand's Patty Tavatanakit—winner of this event in 2021 when it was held in California—both shot 67s to share second place on five under par.
England's Charley Hull, ranked fourth in the world, opened with a level-par 72, while world number one Jeeno Thitikul carded a 74 and sits nine strokes behind Korda.
