Peaty Powers to British 50m Title, Sets Sights on LA 2028 Gold

Three-time Olympic champion Adam Peaty showcased his enduring dominance by clinching the 50m breaststroke title at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships in London. The 31-year-old surged ahead in the final stretch to clock a winning time of 26.64 seconds, adding this victory to his 100m breaststroke triumph earlier in the week.

Teenager Filip Nowacki secured second place in 27.10 seconds, while Archie Goodburn and Max Morgan tied for third at 27.22 seconds. By finishing in the top two, both Peaty and the 18-year-old Nowacki earned their spots on the Great Britain team for the upcoming European Aquatics Championships in Paris this August.

"I've given everything on this preparation and the most exciting thing is the future now," Peaty remarked after his win. "The next few months, we'll hopefully get this down because I know the World Championships is much more competitive. I want to be on top of that [Olympic] podium in two years' time."

While the World Aquatics Championships in China this December remain on the horizon, Peaty's ultimate focus is firmly set on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. This long-term ambition was reaffirmed just a year ago, following the announcement that the 50m breaststroke would be included in the Olympic schedule—offering the British star another shot at individual gold to complement his 100m titles from 2016 and 2021.

In other events at the championships, double Olympic champion Duncan Scott narrowly defeated Edward Mildred to win the 200m butterfly. Lauren Cox, the reigning European 100m backstroke champion, outpaced Blythe Kinsman to claim victory in her discipline. Meanwhile, in the women's MC 100m backstroke, three-time Paralympic champion Alice Tai finished second behind Bethany Firth.

Additional standout performances included 17-year-old Amelie Blocksidge winning the 1500m freestyle, Max Litchfield taking the 400m medley, and 16-year-old Amalie Smith securing victory in her 400m medley event. The London meet will award British titles across 36 medal events throughout the week.
