Philippine Airlines Soars into Chicago: New Nonstop Route to Midwest Hub Launches November

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is set to launch nonstop flights between Manila and Chicago starting November 9, marking a significant expansion of its U.S. network. The new route will operate three times weekly—every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday—using the airline's Airbus A350-900 aircraft, connecting Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) with Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

“Chicago is considered one of the premier hubs in the United States, and our entry into this vibrant city will provide direct connectivity to the Midwest,” said PAL president Richard Nuttall.

Flights will depart Manila in the afternoon, arriving in Chicago the same day, with return trips leaving in the evening and reaching Manila the following morning. Beyond passenger travel, the route is expected to boost PAL's cargo operations by enhancing access to the U.S. Midwest.

The Chicago launch coincides with PAL's broader U.S. expansion. Starting June 1, the airline will increase flights from Manila to Los Angeles to 18 per week, up from 14, and boost Seattle services to six weekly flights from five during June and July. PAL also operates daily flights to San Francisco, three weekly services to New York, and five weekly flights to Honolulu, alongside connections to Guam and Saipan.

To celebrate the new route, PAL is offering introductory round-trip economy fares starting at $667 for bookings made from April 16 to May 31. The move follows Delta Air Lines' withdrawal of opposition to the service, clearing regulatory hurdles. Delta had previously raised concerns about U.S. carrier access to Manila but has since stepped back, paving the way for PAL's entry into Chicago.

Chicago aviation officials welcomed the addition, noting it will strengthen economic and cultural ties between the regions. Michael McMurray, commissioner of the Chicago Department of Aviation, highlighted O’Hare's role as a key international hub, underscoring the route's strategic importance.
