Prom Night Revisited: Danielle Fishel and Lance Bass Recreate Iconic Photo After 27 Years

Nearly three decades after their high school prom, former couple Danielle Fishel and Lance Bass have reunited to recreate their iconic prom night photo, showcasing a friendship that has endured long after their teenage romance ended.

Fishel, best known for her role on Boy Meets World, managed to squeeze back into her original 1999 prom dress—a white matching top and skirt set—with some alterations and determination. "Pulled out my actual prom dress from 1999 and somehow got back into it… after taking it in, a little altering, and a pep talk," she shared in an Instagram video posted on April 21. "Some wins, some losses…the dress fit, but a few of my former curves clearly RSVP’d no."

Bass, the *NSYNC singer, opted for a new suit but wore an identical boutonniere to the one from their original prom night. The recreated photo shows Bass keeping his hands hovering just above Fishel's waist, mirroring their teenage pose. He humorously captioned his own Instagram post: "Some things change… and some things stay respectfully still hovering."

The pair's relationship history adds depth to their lighthearted reunion. High school sweethearts who broke up just two weeks after that prom night, they've maintained a close friendship through significant life changes. Bass came out as gay in 2006, and Fishel was among the first people he told privately.

"Around the time that you came out publicly, you had a Halloween party, and I went to your house and you pulled me aside," Fishel recalled during a 2020 podcast appearance. "You told me, and I just said, 'Lance, it's totally okay.' And we hugged, it was great."

Both have since found lasting partnerships—Bass married Michael Turchin in 2014, while Fishel wed Jensen Karp in 2018. Their enduring friendship has even inspired creative collaboration; at one point, they were developing a film about their teenage romance.

"The reason we wanted to make this prom story into a film is I think so many people can relate to that story," Bass explained in 2022. "So many people in the LGBT community, their prom night was the night they were like, 'Oh, wait a minute. This can't happen anymore.' This was the catalyst for me that made me start to accept myself."

The nostalgic photo recreation serves as a testament to relationships that evolve rather than end, proving that some high school connections can mature into lifelong friendships that celebrate both past memories and present happiness.
