Massachusetts mother Lindsay Clancy acted with "extreme atrocity and cruelty" when she allegedly strangled her three young children to death using exercise bands, prosecutors said in a new court filing.
The motion, obtained by CourtTV, seeks to introduce a 911 call made by Clancy's husband, Patrick, as evidence in her upcoming trial. According to the filing, Patrick called emergency services after finding his wife had jumped from a second-story window of their Duxbury home. While still on the line with the operator, he discovered the children—Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan—in the basement, each with an exercise band around their neck. Patrick could be heard yelling, "She killed the kids!"
Prosecutors argue that the speed with which Patrick removed the bands indicates Clancy did not simply tie them and leave. Instead, they allege she "manually pulled the bands around each child’s neck until they died," demonstrating deliberate malice.
Clancy's attorney does not deny she killed her children but plans to argue that she was overmedicated and suffering from severe postpartum psychosis. Both Clancy and her husband have filed lawsuits against the doctors who treated her.
Her trial is scheduled for July 20. The defense has indicated it will ask the jury to find Clancy guilty by reason of insanity.
