Severe wildfires are sweeping across Florida and Georgia, forcing evacuations and destroying homes as firefighters struggle to contain the blazes amid dry and windy conditions.
In Georgia, the state Forestry Commission reported that firefighters responded to 34 new fires on Wednesday alone, which collectively burned 75 acres. The largest, the Pineland Road Fire in Clinch County, has expanded to nearly 30,000 acres and is only 10% contained.
Meanwhile, Florida is facing what officials describe as one of its worst fire seasons in decades, with more than 130 active wildfires. Authorities in both states point to dry conditions, high winds, and a lack of rain as key factors hampering firefighting efforts.
