After days of relentless burning, much-needed rain has finally fallen on the forest fire in Otsuchi Town, Iwate Prefecture. However, authorities report that the precipitation has not been sufficient to bring the blaze under control, and the fire continues to rage.
“We’ve been waiting for rain all this time,” a local resident told reporters, expressing a mix of relief and frustration. Despite the downpour, the fire remains active, and firefighters are still struggling to contain it.
The wildfire, which broke out six days ago, has already scorched a large area of forest and prompted evacuation orders for approximately 30% of the town’s residents. The lack of significant progress in containing the fire has heightened concerns among the community and emergency services.
