Rapper iHeartMemphis Faces New Burglary Charges After Florida Police Chase

Rapper iHeartMemphis, whose real name is Richard Maurice Colbert, has been arrested on multiple felony burglary charges following a dramatic police chase in Florida, just days after being released from custody for previous alleged offenses.

According to court documents, the incident unfolded on February 18 in the Fort Lauderdale area when police responded to reports of obstructions in a residential neighborhood. Officers discovered that Colbert had allegedly placed orange traffic cones in the roadway, stuffed them with tree foliage, and positioned cinder blocks nearby.

When authorities attempted to detain him for refusing to remove the obstructions, Colbert reportedly fled on foot, initiating a pursuit through multiple backyards and over several fences. Police allege he attempted to enter several homes during the chase before being apprehended at a nearby residence.

"The 'Hit the Quan' rapper was hit with 3 felony counts of burglary, and 2 misdemeanors for obstructing a public roadway and resisting officers without violence," according to the official report.

Before being transported to the station, Colbert received medical treatment at a local hospital for a laceration on his right leg sustained during the incident.

This arrest comes just days after Colbert's release from custody for separate charges involving alleged written and electronic threats to kill, along with obstruction of police without violence. He now faces an additional charge related to those alleged threats from February 20.

Colbert has entered a written plea of not guilty to all charges and requested a trial. He remains in custody with his next court appearance scheduled for April 14.

This marks the latest in a series of concerning incidents involving the rapper. Police records indicate they were called to Colbert's Florida residence approximately a dozen times in February for various disturbances. The most dramatic of these occurred on February 9, when an eight-hour multi-agency SWAT standoff ended with authorities deploying tear gas into his home.

During that previous incident, the mother of Colbert's child expressed concerns about his mental health to responding officers.

Legal representatives for iHeartMemphis have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the latest charges.
