Rangers manager Danny Rohl has called on the club's supporters to give captain James Tavernier a memorable send-off by clinching the Scottish Premiership title in the final weeks of the season.
Tavernier, 34, announced on Wednesday that he will leave Ibrox this summer after 11 years, ending a trophy-laden stint that includes the 2021 league championship, a Scottish Cup, and a League Cup.
With five post-split fixtures remaining, Rangers sit one point behind leaders Hearts and two clear of Celtic. Rohl believes a title win would be the perfect farewell for the veteran right-back.
"It's big news for everyone—for you, for us, for the club, for the fans," said Rohl. "Since I've been here, he's been a fantastic captain, leading the group on and off the pitch. He's a legend and has had an amazing career here."
"He's a great person, trustworthy, and understands the game and the club. He's experienced the highs and lows, and hopefully he can enjoy another beautiful moment at the end of the season. The biggest goodbye would be going out with a title."
Tavernier revealed his decision two days after hinting he would wait until the campaign ended to decide his future. When asked if he wished the defender would stay, Rohl replied: "That's not for today. He made his decision, and he informed me before it became public—very fair of him. He spoke to the group, and now the focus is on these 21 days and five games."
Tuur Rommens and Ryan Naderi will miss Sunday's home match against Motherwell, though Rohl expects both to return for the final four fixtures.
