Scotland Left Fuming Over Penalty Calls and Red Card Decision in World Cup Loss

Scotland faced a narrow 1-0 defeat to Morocco in the World Cup, but the match was overshadowed by contentious refereeing decisions that left the Scots feeling aggrieved.

Two penalty appeals were turned down by Uzbek referee Ilgiz Tantashev during the second half. John McGinn and Scott McTominay both went down inside the box, but no spot-kick was awarded. Former referee Christina Unkel believed one should have been given, while pundits Roy Keane and Ange Postecoglou disagreed with their ITV colleague.

Scottish head coach Steve Clarke was diplomatic but hinted at frustration, saying, "There were one or two decisions that I'm not too sure about. I thought the John McGinn one was more a penalty. On another day somebody could give that."

Clarke also pointed to a first-half incident where Morocco defender Issa Diop received only a yellow card for a challenge on Che Adams, who was through on goal. "On another day that could be a red," Clarke added.

McGinn himself was adamant he was fouled, stating, "Morocco got away with one."

Despite the defeat, Scotland's World Cup knockout hopes remain alive, but the fine margins in Boston have left a bitter taste.
