South Korea's indigenous KF-21 fighter jet has officially entered mass production, marking a major milestone for the country's defense industry. According to LS Securities, this development is just the beginning for Korean defense exports, with platforms like the FA-50 light attack aircraft, K9 self-propelled howitzer, and K2 Black Panther tank expected to follow.
The KF-21, a supersonic fighter developed by Korea Aerospace Industries, is designed to replace aging F-4 and F-5 jets in the South Korean Air Force. Its production ramp-up is seen as a catalyst for expanding Seoul's share of the global arms market, which has already grown significantly in recent years due to demand for cost-effective, reliable military hardware.
LS Securities analysts noted that the KF-21's export potential, combined with existing successes of the K9 and K2 platforms, positions South Korea as a rising player in defense trade. The country has secured deals with nations like Poland, Australia, and Egypt, and is actively pursuing further contracts.
