According to her daughter, Molly Schrader, the veteran actress died in Jersey City following a battle with Alzheimer's disease. She spent her final moments surrounded by her loved ones, including her husband, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Paul Schrader.

Paul and Molly shared a heartfelt joint statement on Facebook to honor her memory:

"She was an actress, a wife, a sister, a mother, an aunt, a friend, and she took on all those roles with grace and kind ferocity. Although we’re all grieving there is some comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and reunited with her sisters in peace."

Over the course of her remarkable career, Hurt captivated audiences across television, film, and theater. On the stage, she proved to be a formidable talent, earning three Tony Award nominations for her standout roles in "Crimes of the Heart," "Trelawny of the Wells," and "Benefactors."
