The US and Iran are locked in a "test of wills" over rival blockades of the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of a dangerous confrontation, warns the BBC's Chief International Correspondent Lyse Doucet.
Earlier this month, US forces declared they would intercept or turn back vessels traveling to or from Iran's coast. Iran has denounced the blockade as "piracy," and its top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated that reopening the strait is "not possible" as long as the US maintains its naval presence.
Lyse Doucet is reporting from Tehran under the condition that none of her material is used on the BBC's Persian Service. These restrictions apply to all international media organizations operating in Iran.
