Northern Ireland has announced a strong team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, featuring Olympians, world medalists, and rising stars across multiple sports.
Athletics Heptathlete Kate O'Connor leads the athletics team after a stellar 2025. The 25-year-old won silver at the World Championships, set a new Irish record of 6714 points, and claimed gold at the World University Games. She previously won silver at the 2022 Games. Anna McCauley joins her in the heptathlon. Nick Griggs and Callum Morgan will debut in the 5000m, while James Gormley competes in the mile. Para-athlete Eve Walsh Dann returns for the 100m and long jump.
Boxing A 12-strong boxing squad includes Caitlin Fryers (flyweight), Nicole Clyde (54kg), Louis Rooney (55kg), defending champion Michaela Walsh (featherweight), Jude Gallagher (lightweight), Kaci Rock (welterweight), John Paul Hale (65kg), Janssen Hill (welterweight), Jon McConnell (light-middleweight), Eoghan Quinn (light-heavyweight), Garyn McAllister (heavyweight), and Willie John McCartan (super-heavyweight).
Cycling Five cyclists debut: Erin Creighton (track), Emma Jeffers (road), Esther Wong (road/track/cyclo-cross), Matthew Dobbins (road), and para-cyclist Chris Burns.
Gymnastics Olympic gold medalist Rhys McClenaghan headlines the artistic gymnastics team after returning from shoulder surgery. Eamon Montgomery, Ewan McAteer, and debutant Chester Enriquez round out the squad.
Netball An experienced netball squad aims to improve on their best finish of seventh. Captain Michelle Magee, vice-captain Caroline O'Hanlon, and debutants Evelyn McCagherty, Lauren Walshe, and Orlaith Rodgers are key members.
Swimming Olympic 800m freestyle gold medalist Daniel Wiffen leads a 15-strong swimming team. He will compete in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle. Other notable swimmers include Olympic relay gold medalist Jack McMillan, four-time Games veteran Danielle Hill, and Youth Commonwealth champion Ellie McCartney. Conor Ferguson returns after missing the 2022 Games.
