Turkey Secures F1 Return for 2027 with Multi-Year Deal

The Turkish Grand Prix will make a comeback to the Formula 1 calendar in 2027, marking its return after a six-year hiatus. The race will be held at the Istanbul Park circuit under a contract that runs until at least 2031.

The circuit, which hosted its first grand prix in 2005, is famously where Lewis Hamilton clinched his record-equalling seventh world drivers' title in 2020. Turkey originally dropped off the schedule after 2011 but made a brief return in 2020–21 as a COVID-19 replacement venue.

This addition will not expand the calendar beyond 24 races; instead, Turkey will slot in as existing contracts expire or move to a rotational basis. For example, the Belgian Grand Prix recently signed a deal to host four races in six years from 2026 to 2031.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the announcement, stating: "Formula 1 ranks among the world's foremost sporting events, distinguished by its spectacle, its young fan base, and its leadership in automotive technologies. In our country, too, Formula 1 enjoys a broad following across all age groups—especially among our youth—with a truly passionate fanbase."

F1 president Stefano Domenicali added: "We are delighted to be returning to the incredible and vibrant city of Istanbul from 2027 to thrill all our fans in Turkey and around the world on one of the most exciting and challenging circuits in Formula 1."

The Istanbul Park circuit, known for its challenging turn 8, has been a favourite among drivers and fans alike. The 2020 race, held in wet conditions, saw Hamilton clinch his seventh title, equalling Michael Schumacher's record.
