Underdog Triumph: Dart and Burrage Power Great Britain to Billie Jean King Cup Finals

Harriet Dart and Jodie Burrage secured a stunning doubles victory to propel Great Britain into the Billie Jean King Cup finals, completing a commanding 3-0 sweep against Australia in the qualifying tie.

Teaming up for the first time, the British duo overcame Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez with a decisive 6-3, 6-4 win on the hard courts of Melbourne, clinching the best-of-five match series.

"That feels amazing," said Burrage after the match. "I'm proud of us for the way that we played, the way that we came out and managed to close that out."

The victory capped off a remarkable performance by a British squad that entered the competition as underdogs, missing four top-100 ranked players including Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter. Despite the ranking disparity, Great Britain has now reached the finals for the third consecutive year.

After dropping their opening service game and falling behind 3-1 in the first set, Dart and Burrage mounted an impressive comeback, winning five straight games to seize the set. The second set featured dramatic momentum swings with four consecutive service breaks before the British pair made the crucial break in the ninth game, allowing Burrage to serve out the match.

"They're two great players. They play a lot of doubles and it was our first time playing together," Dart reflected. "It's crazy actually because we played pretty well and to be able to make the finals is just kind of surreal."

The doubles triumph followed Friday's singles successes, where 17-year-old Mika Stojsavljevic made a stunning competition debut by defeating Talia Gibson—ranked more than 200 places above her—in straight sets. Dart then battled back from a set down to overcome Kimberly Birrell.

Great Britain becomes the second team to qualify for September's eight-team finals in Shenzhen, joining host nation China. The British team has reached the semifinals in the past two tournaments, while Australia will now compete in November's play-offs for another chance at qualification.
