Wales Humble by Argentina: Reality Check in San Juan Clash

Wales were handed a stark reality check as they fell to a 35-21 defeat against Argentina in San Juan, highlighting the gulf in class between the two sides.

After consecutive Test wins against Italy and Fiji, the trip to Argentina proved a step too far. The Pumas scored five tries, dominating in pace, power, and guile. Wales showed spirit but were outclassed, with Argentina's 458 meters gained, 15 clean breaks, and 31 defenders beaten dwarfing Wales' 209 meters, three clean breaks, and 15 defenders beaten.

Head coach Steve Tandy acknowledged the lessons: "Coming away from home we need to be more accurate. Argentina dominated the physicality, and we fell off too many tackles."

Wales' tries came from forwards Dewi Lake, Ben Warren, and Rhys Carre, but their attack lacked fluidity until the final quarter. Captain Lake limped off with a leg injury, and his availability for the upcoming match against South Africa remains uncertain.

Tandy plans to rotate his squad for the clash with the Springboks in Durban, saying, "It's been a long, physical season. We'll assess everyone and make changes."

Wales face a daunting test against the double world champions, who inflicted a record 73-0 defeat on them in November. Tandy remains resolute: "These are the challenges we want."
