Welsh Women's Rugby Shakeup: Joyce Returns, Lockwood Makes Debut Start Against France

Wales have made significant changes to their lineup ahead of their crucial Women's Six Nations clash with France this Saturday at Cardiff Arms Park.

Jasmine Joyce, Wales' most decorated player, has been recalled to the starting XV after being dropped for last week's narrow defeat to Scotland. The wing returns to replace Lisa Neumann, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament with a hamstring injury.

In another major selection move, scrum-half Seren Lockwood will make her first senior start for Wales. She replaces veteran Keira Bevan in the number nine jersey, with Lleucu George set to assume goal-kicking responsibilities.

Head coach Sean Lynn expressed confidence in his new-look lineup, particularly praising Lockwood's impact off the bench against Scotland.

"Seren changed the game for me when she came on," Lynn said. "She brought pace, energy and she's a livewire around the breakdown, making line-breaks and breaking sides down defensively. There's a big role for Keira to be playing off the bench and she has been superb this week, putting her arm around and helping Seren. That's what we want, competition in this squad."

The only other change sees Natalia John replace Alaw Pyrs among the replacements as Wales seek their first victory over France in a decade.

France currently top the Six Nations table following a convincing six-try victory over Italy, while Wales have managed just one win from their last eleven championship matches. Their most recent Six Nations victory came against Italy in the final round of the 2024 tournament.

Despite the challenging statistics, Lynn remains optimistic about his team's progress.

"I know we didn't get the win on Saturday, everybody wants that win, but the performance and the Test match is what we wanted, being competitive - that's what we want in every fixture," the coach explained. "As a group we've got that belief, but the belief is about making sure that we're being consistent with our performances and our processes."

The match kicks off at 15:35 BST on Saturday, with Wales fielding the following starting lineup: Powell; Singleton, Cox, Keight, Joyce; George, Lockwood; Pyrs, Jones, Tuipulotu, Aiono, Crabb, Lewis, Williams (capt), King.
