A woman in Taiwan thought she was doing the right thing by leaving a note and NT$3,000 after accidentally knocking over a parked car with her scooter. However, police say her actions still constitute a hit-and-run offense, and she now faces a fine.

The incident occurred when the woman bumped into the parked car, causing minor damage. She wrote an apology note, left it along with the cash on the vehicle, and departed the scene. The car owner later discovered the note and money, but still reported the incident to authorities.

Under Taiwan's traffic laws, any driver involved in an accident that causes damage must stop, remain at the scene, and contact the police. Leaving a note, even with compensation, does not absolve a driver of this legal obligation. The woman was subsequently identified and cited for hit-and-running.

Legal experts remind drivers that in any accident—even a minor one—the proper procedure is to stop, exchange information, and report to the police. Failure to do so can result in penalties, including fines and potential license suspension.
