World Cup 2026 Trip for England and Scotland Fans Could Cost Over £25,000

The 2026 World Cup in the United States is shaping up to be the most costly tournament ever, with steep ticket prices, expensive accommodation, and inflated transport costs. BBC Sport has calculated the potential expenses for England and Scotland fans planning to attend the group stage.

For England supporters, a trip for two people would cost approximately £13,000, or £6,500 per person. A family of four would face a bill of more than £22,000. Scotland fans face even higher costs due to an eight-night stay in Boston, one of the most expensive host cities. Two Scots would spend about £7,500 each, while a family would need over £25,000.

The breakdown includes flights, accommodation, internal travel, match tickets from Fifa's official resale site, and daily expenses. BBC Sport selected the best-value hotels within four miles of city centers and the cheapest available resale tickets.

For England, the itinerary starts in Dallas, moves to Boston, and ends in New Jersey. The couple's total for flights, hotels, trains, and resale tickets is £13,361. A family's total reaches £22,228. Scotland's 15-night trip includes a night in New York, eight nights in Boston, and six nights in Miami, with costs reaching £15,009 for two friends or £25,564 for a family.

Daily expenses for food, drinks, and activities are estimated at £107 per person per day for two people on a low-to-mid-range budget, totaling £3,000 for 14 days. For a family, this rises to £4,500. Scotland's extra day adds about £214 for two and £320 for a family.

Ticket prices on the resale site are two and a half times face value, with Fifa adding a 15% transaction fee. For England's three group games, two tickets cost £4,370, while a family pays £8,720.

These estimates assume budget-conscious choices; costs could be higher for those seeking more comfort. Prices are correct at the time of writing but subject to change.
