The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, continued receiving mourners at Lusail Palace for a second day, as condolences poured in from across the globe following the death of the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, at age 74.
Thousands of mourners, including members of the ruling family, dignitaries, ministers, foreign officials, and citizens, gathered to pay their respects to the late leader, who passed away on Sunday.
"We share the grief of the Qatari people and offer our heartfelt sympathies," said Rwandan President Paul Kagame, one of several heads of state who traveled to Doha.
Other leaders who offered condolences in person included Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, Iraqi President Nizar Amidi, and Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Oman's Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs Shihab bin Tariq Al Said also attended.
Gulf leaders were prominently represented. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain and Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa offered condolences, while Kuwait's Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah led a delegation. A Saudi delegation included Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud Al Saud and other senior royals.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa arrived in Doha on Monday, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino also paid his respects. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed sent their condolences.
The Amiri Diwan announced that the Emir would receive mourners over three days, from Monday to Wednesday, with sessions in the morning and evening. A four-day public mourning period began Sunday, with flags at half-mast and government offices suspended until July 19.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was laid to rest on Sunday evening at Lusail Cemetery after funeral prayers at Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque.
