Daveigh Chase, the former child actress best known for her chilling role in the horror film The Ring and for voicing the title character in Disney's Lilo & Stitch, has died at age 35.
Chase's boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, confirmed the news. She passed away on Tuesday due to meningitis and a blood infection, which led to septic shock and multiple organ failure, Hernandez said.
According to Hernandez, Chase had been hospitalized in Los Angeles earlier this month for malnutrition.
Chase began her acting career early, landing her breakout role as the voice of Lilo in the 2002 animated hit Lilo & Stitch and its subsequent television series. She also voiced the lead character, Chihiro, in the English dub of Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away.
Horror audiences knew her as Samara Morgan, the ghostly antagonist in the 2002 remake of The Ring. Her performance earned her an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.
From 2006 to 2011, Chase played the recurring role of Rhonda Volmer on the HBO series Big Love, appearing in 32 episodes across the show's five seasons.
Her other credits include Donnie Darko, Beethoven's 5th, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, ER, and Mercy.
Chase had several legal troubles in later years, which were previously reported. She was 35.
