Matt Brown, known for his role on the reality series Alaskan Bush People, has died at age 43. His brother, Bear Brown, confirmed the news in a TikTok video, revealing that Matt took his own life.
Bear, visibly emotional, asked for respect and kindness as the family mourns. He urged viewers not to leave hurtful comments, emphasizing the family is still processing the tragedy.
Dispatch audio obtained by TMZ details the search for Brown’s body. Responders noted his backpack was found, his gun was believed to be in the water, and his body was not with the backpack. A search boat and dive team were called in.
Concern for Brown arose earlier in May when he live-streamed on YouTube, appearing incoherent, nude, possibly intoxicated, and at one point holding what seemed to be a gun.
Family sources told TMZ that most of the family cut ties with Matt about five years ago due to his ongoing addiction struggles. Only his brother Gabe Brown remained in sporadic contact.
Despite the estrangement, the family expressed worry when Matt went missing. Bear shared a video mentioning that Matt had been seen near a river and was floating in the water.
Alaskan Bush People follows a family living off the grid in Alaska’s wilderness. Brown appeared in 79 episodes from 2014 to 2019.
