Bears Blast Past Newcastle to Claim Top-Four Spot

Bristol Bears cruised to an emphatic 52-19 victory over Newcastle Red Bulls at Kingston Park, moving into the Premiership play-off positions with an eight-try display.

The bonus-point win takes Bristol one point ahead of Exeter Chiefs, who drop to fifth before their match against Gloucester. The Bears were dominant from the start, with tries from Rich Lane and Kalaveti Ravouvou in quick succession setting the tone. Tom Jordan added another before half-time, and second-half scores from Noah Heward and Matias Moroni sealed the contest. Benhard Janse van Rensburg crossed twice, and Harry Thacker added a late try.

For Newcastle, Adam Brocklebank scored in the first half, with Christian Wade and Josh Hodge touching down after the break. The Red Bulls have now lost five straight and 13 of 14 this season, remaining eight points adrift of ninth-placed Harlequins.

Earlier this week, Dan McFarland was announced as Newcastle's head coach for next season, but the current squad struggled to contain the free-flowing Bears attack. Pat Lam's side showcased their attacking flair, counter-attacking from deep with a lovely chip from Moroni before Lane finished. Ravouvou scored with his first touch after replacing the injured Lane.

Brocklebank powered over for his first Premiership try, but Jordan danced through a gap minutes later. Heward secured the bonus point in the 42nd minute, and Moroni added another against his former club. Janse van Rensburg then grabbed a brace before Thacker rounded off the scoring in the final minute.

Lam will be concerned about several injuries ahead of crucial matches against the top two, Northampton Saints and Bath. For Newcastle, Wade's try was his 95th in the Premiership, moving him within six of Chris Ashton's all-time record of 101. Hodge also scored on his return, but the Red Bulls couldn't secure a fourth try for a bonus point.
