Sandra Bullock has starred in numerous romantic comedies throughout her career, but one stands out as her personal favorite: the 1995 hit While You Were Sleeping. In a recent reflection, Bullock described the film as "the most fun I have ever had on a film," highlighting the off-screen camaraderie that made the experience unforgettable.

"When we got off work, we would all find a local salsa dancing place or place to eat. We would slide dance and have Scattergories parties or just do crazy stuff. I go, where did I get the energy?" Bullock recalled in a 2020 interview with The Washington Post. "I don’t think I ever slept. Everything about that experience was magical."

The film, directed by John Turtletaub, follows Bullock's character Lucy, a Chicago toll collector who saves a comatose commuter named Peter (played by Peter Gallagher) and pretends to be his fiancée, only to fall for his brother Jack (Bill Pullman). Despite the potentially awkward premise, the movie became a box office success, grossing over $182 million worldwide.

Interestingly, the film's origins trace back to a joke between screenwriters Frederic Lebow and Dan Sullivan. Lebow shared that the idea sparked from a self-deprecating comment about his dating life: "I said something like, 'I'm such a loser, I couldn't even get a date with a woman in a coma.' Dan started laughing, and we started picking at that idea."

Originally titled Coma Guy, the script underwent significant changes. Initially, the story featured a man pretending to be engaged to a comatose woman, but after feedback from Meg Ryan's production company, the roles were reversed to make the premise more humorous and less predatory. While Meg Ryan and Demi Moore were considered for the lead role, Bullock ultimately brought Lucy to life, cementing the film as a beloved classic in her filmography.
