Dan Edwards, the 23-year-old Ospreys fly-half, has pledged to enjoy the intense scrutiny that comes with wearing Wales' number 10 jersey, a position steeped in history and expectation.
After being dropped for the Six Nations match against Scotland, Edwards reclaimed his spot following an injury to Sam Costelow. He delivered a standout performance against Italy, scoring 16 points, including a try and a drop-goal, to help Wales end their three-year losing streak.
"I play my best rugby when I look happy and a bit cheeky on the field," Edwards said. "Wales captain Dewi Lake told me he would hate to play against me if I was having a laugh and a joke."
Edwards' positive attitude has been praised by Ospreys head coach Mark Jones, who called it "infectious." Despite the pressures, Edwards remains grounded, regularly returning to his hometown club Cwmavon, where he finds joy and normalcy.
"Your best ability is your availability," Edwards noted, highlighting his durability. He has made 25 starts this season and is set to play his 50th Ospreys game against Leinster.
Off-field challenges have included uncertainty over the Ospreys' future, but Edwards has signed a two-year deal to stay. "It's been a rollercoaster year, but we've come out the other side," he said.
Looking ahead, Edwards aims to continue his form in Wales' summer fixtures against the Barbarians, Fiji, Argentina, and South Africa.
