DBP Unleashes P2 Billion for Affordable Housing Push

The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has greenlit a P2-billion loan to ramp up the construction of affordable homes under the national government's flagship housing program, the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH).

The funds will be channeled to PH1 World Landscapes Inc., the real estate arm of the Megawide Group, a key partner of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development. The developer is currently active in housing projects across Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Cavite.

Under the initiative, 8,360 housing units are slated for construction in Caloocan City, Imus City, and Bacoor City. The projects are also expected to generate roughly 1,000 jobs, providing a dual boost to shelter and employment.

"This collaboration is seen to contribute to the fulfillment of the national government's goals of constructing affordable housing units that would unite families, strengthen communities and generate livelihood opportunities for our countrymen," said DBP president and CEO Michael de Jesus.

De Jesus emphasized that the bank's support aligns with its core development thrusts and its commitment to making homeownership more accessible to low-income households. As of end-January, the state lender had already disbursed P1.31 billion in financing to local government units, developers, and contractors under the 4PH program.

DBP, with P1.041 trillion in assets, operates as a development financial institution focused on infrastructure, logistics, micro, small and medium enterprises, environmental projects, and social services. The 4PH program aims to address the nation's 6.5-million housing backlog through high-density vertical developments on government and private lands, targeting the urban poor, informal settler families, minimum wage earners, government employees, overseas Filipino workers, and public utility vehicle drivers.
