Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal will depart the club at the conclusion of this season, ending a remarkable 23-year association with the Spanish giants across two spells. The 34-year-old right-back, who came through the club's youth academy, has amassed 450 appearances and 14 goals for Los Blancos.
Carvajal's trophy haul of 27 titles places him among the most decorated players in football history, including six Champions League triumphs — a feat matched by only four other players. He is the sole player to have started in all six finals he won. His domestic accolades include four La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey crowns, complemented by six Club World Cups, five Uefa Super Cups, and four Spanish Super Cups.
The Madrid-born defender made his senior debut in 2013 after a season at Bayer Leverkusen, where Madrid activated a buy-back clause. He has since been a cornerstone of both club and country, earning 51 caps for Spain and helping secure the Nations League in 2023 and the European Championship in 2024.
Injuries have blighted his final seasons, including a cruciate ligament tear in October 2024 and another serious knee issue a year later. The arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer further limited his playing time, with just 892 La Liga minutes this campaign.
"Dani Carvajal is a legend and a symbol of Real Madrid and its academy," club president Florentino Pérez said. "Carvajal has always exemplified the values of Real Madrid. This is and will always be his home."
Madrid will honor Carvajal before their final home match of the season against Athletic Club on Saturday, 23 May, at the Santiago Bernabéu.
